Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued orange warning for six districts of Odisha, which are likely to experience thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy rainfall till 8.30 am on Wednesday.
The districts, which are likely to be affected are Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Khurda.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, and Ganjam, the MeT office said.
One or two places in Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri may experience thunderstorm with lighting.
The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain at many places in North Odisha and South coastal Odisha and at a few places in South Interior Odisha during this period.
Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Rayagada during the subsequent 24 hours.
Rainfall activity in the state will continue till May 29, it added.
The IMD further said that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some parts of southwest Arabian Sea, some more parts of southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area, south & eastcentral Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.
However, there will be a slight rise in day temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius at a few places in Odisha after three days.
