Bhubaneswar: As heavy rain coupled with lightning pounded several districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities, on Friday evening the government asked the civic bodies to remain prepared to deal with possible waterlogging.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there will be intense and widespread rainfall activity in the districts of Khurda (including Bhubaneswar city), Nayagarh, Kendrapara and Cuttack (Including Cuttack city) in the evening.
Under its impact, low visibility, traffic congestion, water logging may be experienced in different parts including urban areas.
The SRC has directed the Collectors concerned and Commissioners of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to remain alert and be prepared to attend any eventuality. In case of submergence of low-lying areas, adequate pump sets should be kept in readiness.
In a nowcast warning issued at 6.15 pm, the IMD said light to moderate rain, thundershower with lightning may hit some parts of Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Puri, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Nayagarh, Kendrapada, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Jagatsinghpur and Keonjhar within next three hours. The weather agency also issued yellow warning for these districts during the period.
