Heavy Rain In Next 24 Hours To Bring Cheer To Farmers, Waterlogging Trouble In Urban Areas

Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha-West Bengal coasts and associated cyclonic circulation are likely to trigger widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy spells of rain with isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha during the next 24 hours.

This will help in the transplantation of Kharif crops. However, drainage of excess water may be required in low-lying areas of the districts, which receives heavy rainfall. Also temporarily waterlogging and traffic disruption may occur in low-lying areas of some cities, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

ORANGE WARNING:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Sundargarh, ]harsuguda,, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir and Nuapada

YELLOW WARNING:

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda and Puri.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the area of north and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal along and off Odisha coasts, which is likely to witness squally weather with strong surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 mph, till July 25 morning.

The districts under orange and yellow warnings have been asked to remain prepared to meet any water logging/ landslide/ localised flood-like situation including urban areas, a release issued by the Special Relief Commissioner office said.
