Heavy Rain In Upper Catchments; Four More Gates Of Hirakud Dam Opened

Sambalpur: Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, the Hirakud Dam authorities on Wednesday opened four more gates to release the floodwater.

While the water level of the dam by 9 am was 629.08 feet as against the optimum level of 630 feet, the inflow and outflow were 1,70,251 cusecs per second and 1, 00,369 cusecs per second, respectively.

While the floodwater is released from nine gates, the dam authorities have decided to open more gates later to maintain the rule curve of the reservoir.

As the low pressure formed over the north-east Bay of Bengal has moved towards Chhattisgarh, there is heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi since last 48 hours.
