Sambalpur: Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, the Hirakud Dam authorities opened two gates to release the floodwater on Monday.
By 9 am, the water level of the dam was 628.31 feet against the optimum level of 630 feet.
Officials said the inflow of floodwater into the dam was 47,325 cusecs per second while the outflow was 48,737 cusecs per second.
Earlier this month, the authorities had opened 46 gates of the dam following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments. The gates were closed on September 18 after the recession of floodwater.
