Heavy rain to lash 9 districts in next 48 hours

Bhubaneswar: The regional meteorological centre has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of southern and northern parts of Odisha in the next 48 hours.
“Very heavy rain is likely to occur in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Ganjam due to a cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal,” the Met office said on Sunday.
Besides, another system is likely to form on September 1 and seems to be stationary up to September 5. This may lead to heavy rainfall in North Odisha river catchments between September 2 and September 5, it said.
Strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast. Fishermen have been advised to practice cautious while venturing into the sea.
