Heavy Rain Lashes Odisha, Low Pressure Over Bay Of Bengal By April 29

Bhubaneswar:  A day after most parts of Odisha received moderate to heavy rainfall,, the local Met office on Thursday predicted formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on April 29.

According to the forecast, the low pressure is most likely to be formed over the south-east Bay of Bengal on April 29. “Under the influence of the low pressure, the temperature in the western coast and its adjoining areas will be relatively low. As the temperature in the east coast of the Bay of Bengal will rise, there is more possibility that the low pressure will intensify into a cyclonic storm and drift towards the Myanmar coast. This will trigger heavy rainfall in the Andamans. However, the intensity and velocity of the low pressure can be measured only after it intensifies,” the weatherman said.

Meanwhile, the rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 5.30 am on Wednesday was the highest at Phulbani (63.2 mm) followed by Chandbali (61.9), Keonjhar (39.5), Cuttack (27), Talcher (21), Daringbadi (21), Baripada (18), Balasore (16.5), Jharsuguda (12.8), Nayagarh (12.2), Rayagada (10), Boudh (7), Chhatrapur (7), Bhubaneswar (6.9), Paradip (6.3) and Balangir (5).

Due to the widespread rainfall, the day temperature has come down appreciably. Barring Titlagarh and Malkangiri which recorded the highest temperature at 40.5 degree Celsius, the temperature at the remaining places remained below 35 degree Celsius.
