Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm activity is likely to lash several parts of Odisha over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
The IMD also issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds in several parts of the state, while forecasting heavy rainfall in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts during the next 24 hours.
In its mid-day weather bulletin, it said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds
reaching 30-40 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts on Monday.
The weather office has also predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts. This apart, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
On July 13-14, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Sundaragada Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, and Rayagada. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts.
The MeT Centre has advised people to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
People have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, keep away from electric poles and water bodies, and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
