Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal district on Thursday.
These four districts are also likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph. Similar warning has also been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Angul.
The weather agency has also predicted light to moderate rain/thundershower at a few places in South Odisha and at one or two places in North Odisha.
On May 17, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati during the subsequent 24 hours (May 18).
Heatwave conditions may return to the state on May 19 with yellow warning issued for districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Angul. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati ,Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal.
Heatwave will continue to prevail at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Sundargarh on May 20. There is also a warning for thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur .
While there is no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue during the subsequent two days.
The IMD has also forecast a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius at many places in the state in the next 3-5 day.
