Bhubaneswar: The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack woke up to incessant rain on Thursday morning.
The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for four districts of Odisha till 11 am. Moderate rain/thundershower with one or two intense spell of rain likely to affect some parts of Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts during this period.
The weather agency has warned of waterlogging in low-lying area, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban area.
Yellow warning of light to moderate rain/thundershower has also been issued for Ganjam, Nayagarh, Dhankanal, Jajpur and Kendrapada. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places.
Earlier in the day, the IMD had warned of moderate thunderstorm accompanied by squall wind speed reaching (30-40 kmph),
lightning and intense spell rain in some parts of Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Nayagarh and Angul till 8.30 am.
Under its impact, there was a possibility of minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, waterlogging in low-lying areas, minor damage to banana trees and standing crops. People were also advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
