Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely to resume in Odisha from Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather agency has warned of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on Wednesday.
It further stated that heavy rain may lash parts of northern and western Odisha for four days from Thursday.
On August 21-22, yellow warning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balasore and Bargarh.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri on August 21; and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh on August 22.
On August 23-24, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on these two days.
Squally weather with wind speed of 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may also prevail along and off North Odisha coasts on August 20, 23, and 24.
Though there is no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may occur at many places across the state during the subsequent five days.
