Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are likely to encounter thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for several districts till July 30.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapat by the morning of July 29. These districts have been issued yellow warnings.
On July 29-30, heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj district.
Similarly, thunderstorms with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati. The IMD has issued yellow alerts for these districts.
In view of the weather forecast, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted the collectors of all districts and asked them to keep the administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
People may be advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm and lightning. Besides, they should avoid going to waterlogged areas, a communication to the district Collectors said.
This apart, the Collectors have been asked to submit reports on the damage caused due to lightning, heavy rain and floods immediately to the state government.
