Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm coupled with heavy rain is likely to continue in several parts of Odisha over the next one week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) at some places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagad during the next 24 hours.
Yellow warning was issued for Jharsuguda, Bargarda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonpur, Nuapada, and Balangir districts during the period.
This apart, heavy rain is likely to lash some places in Kendujhar, Kandhamala, and Koraput, while hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail at isolated places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam,
Puri, Khordha, and Nayagad.
On June 28-29, an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) was issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Similarly, yellow warning was issued for Anugola, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagad, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargada, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonpur, Nuapada, and Balangir.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over Kandhamal, Koraput, and Rayagada districts during the period
On June 29-30, an orange warning of thunderstorm has been issued Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati.
Heavy rainfall is expected to take place at one or two places over Nabarangapur and Koraput districts.
On June 30-July 1, an orange warning of very heavy rainfall has been issued for Koraput district.
Yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagad.
Heavy rainfall is also likely to lash Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts during the period.
The IMD has advised people in the affected districts to remain alert, especially during thunderstorms and heavy rain spells. Farmers, fishermen, and those in vulnerable areas are requested to take necessary precautions.
