Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm, lighting and squall lashed Odisha capital, which was the hottest place in Odisha at 39.8 degree Celsius by 11.30 am, on Tuesday afternoon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 12 districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. till 5.15 pm. Light to moderate Rain, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely in some parts of Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Balasore, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Khurda in 3 hours, it said.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.
Earlier, similar warning was issued for Khurda, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Balangir till 4.30 pm.
