Heavy Rain To Continue In Odisha With 3-Day Break From Tomorrow As Depression Moves Away


Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain together with thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in several parts of Odisha over the next six days with a three-day respite from Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the depression over Jharkhand and adjoining northern parts of Gangetic West Benga moved west-north-westwards and lay centred over the same region. It is likely to continue to move west-north-westwards across Jharkhand & Bihar and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during next 24 hours.

No warning has been issued by the weather agency between the morning of August 19 and August 22 morning. During this period, Odisha is expected to experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorm activity.

In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places over the district of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, and Sambalpur till Wednesday morning.

A yellow warning of heavy rain has also been issued for the districts of Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudhagada, and Balangir during the period.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) may occur at some places over the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudhagada, and Balangir.
On August 22-23, a yellow warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for some places of Mayurbhanj district.

Similarly, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) may occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.

From August 23 to 25, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for these districts.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast on Tuesday as squally weather with high-speed wind may prevail in the region.
