Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts of Odisha on Monday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may also prevail along & off North Odisha coasts and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, which is likely to remain moderate to rough.
While there is no heavy rain warning thereafter since the low-pressure area over north Telangana & adjoining Vidarbha has become less marked, thunderstorm activity may continue in the state till September 19.
However, a fresh weather system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal later this week. “There is a likelihood of formation of a fresh upper air cyclonic circulation/low-pressure area over westcentral & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 20,” the IMD said in its extended range outlook.
Notably, Odisha has experienced heavy rain under the influence of 12 low-pressure areas during the ongoing southwest monsoon season.
