Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain to lash five districts of Odisha on Saturday under the influence of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a morning release.
According to the release, the low-pressure area over the north-west Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts on Friday now lies over coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation with a tilt towards the south-west.
Besides, an east-west trough from the Gulf of Martaban adjoining and North Andaman Sea passes through the cyclonic circulation associated with the above low-pressure area.
Under its influence, heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning will occur at one or two places over the north and south coastal Odisha from Saturday and will continue for the next four days till October 19.
Due to the inclement weather, fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea areas of the west-central, North Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coasts during the next 48 hours and over the North Bay of Bengal for three days from October 17 to 19 as squally weather with occasionally surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph will make the sea condition rough to very rough.
