Heavy Rain To Lash Odisha From Tomorrow; Intensity To Increase In Coastal Belt From Aug 17

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy rain from August 16 and the intensity is likely to increase on August 17 and 18, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.

Till Wednesday morning (August 16), light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at many places in North Interior Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and at a few places in the remaining parts of the state. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts.

The weather agency has issued yellow warning of heavy rain for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur during the subsequent 24 hours. It has also forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places in North Odisha and at a few places in the southern districts of the state. Thunderstorm with lightning warning has also been sounded for one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

On August 17, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Heavy rain is also likely at some places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Balangir.

The warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall continues for August 18 and the districts that are likely to be affected are Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Boudh. Heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Ganjam.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at most places across Odisha on these two days.

The intensity of rain is likely to decrease thereafter with heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir and Kandhamal on August 19. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur in Interior Odisha and at many places in coastal districts of the state, it added.
