Bhubaneswar: With Southwest Monsoon active over Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecast heavy rain in several parts of the state during next 5 days.
Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj till 8.30 am on Thursday. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at most places in coastal Odisha Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and at many places in remaining districts during this period, the MeT office said in its midday bulletin.
Notably, it began raining in coastal districts of Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam, this morning. “The Monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, Churu, Guna, Sidhi, Ambikapur, Balasore and thence southeastwards to Central Bay of Bengal while the cyclonic circulation over Westcentral Bay of Bengal adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast now lies over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal,” it said.
The IMD further said that the intensity of rain may increase the following day (June 6) with heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Bargarh and Sambalpur and heavy downpour at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Cuttack. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely across the state on this day.
On July 7, heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Cuttack with light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places across the state.
The heavy rainfall warning continues for some places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj during the subsequent 24 hours (July 8).
Heavy Rainfall is likely at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore on July 9 with light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places in the state.
