Heavy Rain To Pound Odisha In Next 24 Hours, Warns IMD

Bhubaneswar:  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that heavy rain will lash six districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

A trough — running from the cyclonic circulation over west Vidarbha and neighbourhood to Comorin area across Marathawada, interior Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu — has become active. Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Ganjam and Kandhamal in the next 24 hours.

In view of the prevailing weather condition, IMD has issued orange and yellow warning for the following districts.

April 24
(Orange warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Ganjam and Gajapati

Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Ganjam and Kandhamal.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the remaining 14 districts.

April 25
(Orange warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam and Cuttack.

(Yellow warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the remaining 20 districts.

April 26
(Orange warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the remaining 20 districts.

April 27
(Orange warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Boudh and Mayurbhanj.

(Yellow warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the remaining 24 districts.

Due to heavy rainfall, the maximum day temperature will be below normal by 2-4°C in the state during the next 4-5 days, the IMD said.

The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, in an evening release, said that except heavy rainfall in Baripada (27.8 mm), dry weather prevailed in the remaining areas of the state.
