Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely to resume in Odisha from August 23 with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) presiding the formation of another cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal around August 25.
After two days of heavy downpour, the intensity of rain in the state decreased on Saturday with the active low pressure area moving towards Chhattisgarh and there no weather warning for 4 days. However, many places may continue to experience light to moderate rain during this period, according to the midday bulletin.
The IMD has issued yellow warning of heavy rainfall for one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on August 23. There is also a warning of thunderstorm with lightning for some places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts. Light to moderate rain may also occur at many places in North Odisha and at a few places in the southern districts of the state.
While the recent rains under the influence of the low pressure helped cover some deficit in rainfall in the state, nine districts – Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Jajpur – still recorded a shortfall till August 19. Odisha has recorded 733.1 mm against its normal value of 786.5 mm so far this monsoon season. Two districts – Boudh and Jharsuguda – have received excess rain while 19 are in the normal category.
