Balasore: Following heavy rainfall due to low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, the flood situation looms large in Balasore district.
The water level of the Jalaka river has crossed the danger mark at Mathani due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas in Rasagobindapur, Morada, Suliapada and Chitrada since last 24 hours.
By 7 am, the water level of the river was 6.80 metres against the danger level of 5.5 metres.
If the rain continues for another 24 hours, the floodwater of the river will enter 10 panchayats of Basta block and two panchayats of the Sadar block.
The district administration has kept its machinery ready to tackle the situation.
