Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding In Five Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfaill has triggered flood like situation in five districts — Puri, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kalahandi and Kandhamal — of Odisha.

Puri

In Puri, road communication between Tinikuda and Balikera panchayats was disrupted after a temporary bamboo bridge over Bhargabi river was swept away by floodwaters.

Bhadrak

In Bhadrak, the water level of Baitarani was flowing at a height of 17.56 metres as against the danger mark of 17.83 metres at Akhuapada. Sources in the district control room said that the water level of the river was rising at 0.89 metres per hour. Several low-lying areas in the district have been submerged due to incessant rain.

Balasore

In Balasore, the water level of Jalaka river at Mathani was flowing at a height of 7.67 metres, which is above the danger mark of 5.5 metres. Floodwaters have entered some panchayats of Basta block.

Kalahandi

In Kalahandi, heavy rain has triggered flood like situation due to the swelling of Hati river. The people living in the low-lying areas of Biripur panchayat are in a state of panic water from Hati river has been flowing over the embankment.

Road communication between Dharmagarh and Junagarh has been disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater over Halur bridge in Junagarh.

Kandhamal

In Kandhamal, road communication between Phulbani and Dakapala has been disrupted due to overflowing of Salunki river. While Dakapala panchayat is marooned, three houses at Nuasahi in Baliguda block were damaged.

Waterlogging In Dhenkanal

In Dhenkanal town, rainwater has entered several houses in ward nos. 16 and 20. As a result, round 200 families were not able to come out of their houses. In Gayatri Nagar area, people had to wade through 2 feet of stagnated rainwater on the roads.

Overall in Odisha, the rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Thursday was highest in Phulbani with 132 mm, followed by Koraput (128), Malkangiri (107), Titlagarh (88), Balangir (87), Talcher (85), Paradip (81.5), Baripada (72), Angul (57), Sonepur (54.2), Chandbali (52.3), Keonjhar (52.3), Cuttack (51.8), Hirakud (45), Puri (41.6), Jharsuguda (40.8), Bhubaneswar (40.7), Sambalpur (30.4), Sundargarh (31), Daringbadi (31), Bhawanipatna (29.4), Boudh (28.2), Balasore (27.9), Nayagarh (25), Gopalpur (18), Rayagada (11) and Chhatrapur (10.4).
