Bhubaneswar: With the well-marked low pressure expected to intensify into depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur in Odisha.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places in coastal Odisha and at a few places in interior Odisha. Shallow to moderate fog is also likely at one or two places in Kandhamal , Kalahandi and Sundargarh districts till Saturday morning.
Bhubaneswar has been experiencing cloudy weather and light rain since last night, which has led to a fall in day temperature by 9°C at 2 pm compared to the previous day, according senior meteorologist Umashankar Das.
The weather agency further stated that light rain or thundershower may continue at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal districts during the subsequent 24 hours when the system is likely to move north-northeastwards, maintaining the intensity of depression.
Thereafter, dry weather will prevail across the state, which will also experience a dip in the night temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius from December 23, it added.
