Floods in the Subarnarekha river have affected nearly 156 villages in 83 panchayats under six blocks of Balasore district. Around 40,000 people from the affected villages have been shifted to safer locations.
“Though Subarnarekha is still flowing above the danger mark, the water level has remained stable for the last eight hours,” state Water Resources Minister Tukuni Sahu told reporters on Monday.
Sahu said the water level in almost all the rivers in the state had dropped except Subarnarekha, which is in spate following the release of excess water from Galudihi barrage in Jharkhand after heavy downpour triggered by the depression.
