Heavy Rainfall Forecast: Odisha Govt Alerts Collectors Of Coastal Districts

Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall in coastal districts of Odisha till October 30, Joint Special Relief Commissioner Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra on Sunday asked the collectors concerned to remain alert to tackle any eventuality.

“Collectors of Puri, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajnam, Bhadrak and Balasore have been asked to remain alert in view of the possible heavy rainfall forecast. Special attention should be given to Ganjam and Gajapati districts, which were recently affected by cyclone ‘Titli’ and subsequent floods,” he said.

The IMD had earlier forecast heavy rainfall in Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Rayagada, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts till October 30 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation formed over west-central Bay of Bengal.

“Scattered rainfall is likely in coastal districts of the state from today. Heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts. Light to moderate rainfall is most likely to occur over many places in coastal districts on October 29,” informed regional meteorological centre director HR Biswas.

The Met bulletin had also advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea in view of rough sea conditions on October 29 and 30.
