Bhubaneswar: Amid the rise in temperature across Odisha due to which people are facing excessive humid weather conditions for the past few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that major rainfall activity is unlikely to be witnessed by the state till this weekend.
“The state will not be witnessing any major change in weather conditions till August 5,” informed R K Jenamani, senior scientist, IMD, while speaking to a local channel.
Jenamani added that rainfall is likely to be witnessed in southern Odisha under the influence of a possible low pressure by August 6 or 7.
The seasonal cumulative rainfall realised between June 1 and August 1 is 512.2 mm against its normal value of 560.6 mm, the regional meteorological centre said on its official Twitter account.
During this period, two districts received excess rainfall, five districts were in deficient and rest 23 districts in normal category.
Earlier on Saturday, SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), Bhubaneswar, said that a possible low pressure along the central Odisha coast may end the existing dry spell.
“A cyclonic circulation, likely to form over the Bay of Bengal along Odisha coast on August 4 or 5, will develop into a low pressure area after 2-3 days. Numerical models indicate that the system might gradually intensify into a deep depression on August 9,” stated the CEC bulletin.
