Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued heavy rainfall warning for Odisha.
Informing the media, duty office of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmikanta Giri said that under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, a low-pressure area has formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation tilting towards the south-west direction. It is likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours.
In view of the formation of a low-pressure area, the IMD has issued orange and yellow warning for the following districts for three days.
August 12
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Balangir.
August 13
(Orange warning)
Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Keonjhar, Balangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Raygada, Nayagarh, Puri, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Kalahandi.
Yellow warning
Heavy rainfall very likely to occur in isolated places over the remaining districts of Odisha.
August 14
(Orange warning)
South interior Odisha and Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Bargarh
(Yellow warning)
Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri and Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Dhenkanal.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off the Odisha coast and north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours as squally weather with wind speed exceeding 45 kmph will make the sea condition rough to very rough.
