Kandhamal: Seventeen platoons of police, including central forces, have been mobilised in Kandhamal to prevent any untoward incident on the occasion of Janmashtami and 9th death anniversary of Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on Monday.
“A three-layer security arrangements have been put in place with the VHP gearing up to hold condolence meetings at different places, including Chakapada ashram of the seer. Patrolling and vehicle checking have also been intensified in Maoist-prone areas,” a senior police officer said.
Laxmananda, along with his four associates, was killed on August 23, 2008, at his ashram. The incident had triggered communal violence in Kandhamal and adjoining areas in which more than 38 people lost their lives and hundreds were rendered homeless.
