Heavy To Very Heavy Rain May Lash Khurda, Puri Today; Yellow Alert Continues Till June 30

Bhubaneswar: Some parts of Odisha, including Khurda and Puri, may experience intense spells of rain on Thursday (June 27) with a cyclonic circulation persisting over Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning of heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri and Khurda districts. Heavy rain may also lash Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Angul and Dhenkanal till 8.30 am on Friday. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj ,Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur and Boudh districts.

Bhubaneswar may experience partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm.

On June 28, heavy to very heavy rain may occur at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak districts. There is also a warning for heavy rainfall in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sundargarh. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj .

While thunderstorm activity may cease from June 28, heavy rain may continue in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh with intense downpour at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh districts.

On June 30, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar and Deogarh.

Though there are no further weather warnings, light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at many places in North Odisha and at a few places in the southern districts during the subsequent 3 days, it added.
