Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation over South Odisha and north Coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rain along with thunderstorm activity in Odisha till September 13, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The weather agency has warned of thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on September 9.
Heavy rain may resume in the state on September 10 with a yellow warning issued for districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh. There is also a warning of thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal.
According to the IMD, the intensity of rain may increase on September 11. An orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri and Koraput.
Strong winds may damage plantation, horticulture and standing crops and vulnerable structures in these two districts. The national forecaster has also warned of flooding of roads, mudslides in hilly terrain and waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasional reduction in visibility during heavy rain and disruption of marine and inland water transportation like small boats and trawlers.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the the districts of Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal.
On September 12, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
While there is no heavy rain warning for September 13, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Bargarh.
Light to moderate rain is likely at a few places in Odisha during the subsequent 5 days, it added.
