Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall To Resume In Odisha, Check The Districts Under Orange Alert

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash Odisha again from August 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over south Myanmar and neighbourhood. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around August 19,” the MeT office said while issuing orange warning for several districts for two days.

On August 18, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely at isolated places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.

The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase in the subsequent two days. Isolated places in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Jajpur are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) on August 19. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at isolated places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts during this period.

Orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) continues for isolated places in Nuapada, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur and Kalahandi on August 20. Isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, and Keonjhar are also likely to experience heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) in these 24 hours.

Under influence of the anticipated low-pressure area, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is very likely over north adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on August 19-20 and along and off Odisha coast on August 20. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on these days, it added.
