Height Of Controversy: Cuttack Puja Panels Urge CM To Lift Durga Idol Curbs

Cuttack: Amid the row over the government-madated height of Durga idols, the Puja Committees and Shanti Committee in Cuttack will plan their next action on Thursday.

The committees have also writen a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, urging him to reconsider the decision, former BJD MLA and secretary of Cuttack Mahanagar Puja Committee Pravat Tripathy told the media.

“We will wait for the decision of the Chief Minister till this (Thursday) evening and decide our future course of action accordingly,” Tripathy added.

BJD leader and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab said the Puja Committees and Shanti Committee have apprised the Chief Minister of their decision to raise the height of the idols and allow the rituals of the Goddess without covering the idol with curtains from all sides of the puja mandaps.

“As the letter of these two committees has been sent to the Chief Minister, we will have to wait for the decision of the administration,” he said.

He, however, added that he can’t have a personal discussion on the matter with the CM because “it is not a major issue”.
