As the State Government gears up to tackle the unfolding situation arising out of cyclone Fani, here’s how the various departments have activated their machinery to deal with the impending threat.
Preparedness at the Departmental Level
I. PR & DW Department (Rural Drinking Water )
• 734 PVC tanks and 668 vehicles have been kept ready
• 337 DG sets with fuel have been arranged
• 3840 overhead tanks have been filled up with water
• 3201100 water pouches are ready for distribution
• 203 electricians are ready for immediate deployment
• 373 mobile repairing units have been kept ready
II. W & CD and Mission Shakti Department
• Instructions have been issued for adequately stocking food in all the AWCs, NGO-run institutions such as Child Care Institutions, Swadhar and Ujjwala Homes.
• Instructions have also been issued for giving Chhatua and eggs to children in the age group of 6 months-3 years and pregnant and nursing women in advance for 7 days.
III. Department of Energy
• Advance placement of skilled manpower and materials like steel poles, cement concrete poles, conductors, cross arms and distribution transformers and other accessories is being done for quick restoration of power supply in case of any eventuality.
IV. Department of Rural Development
• All Rural Works Divisions are in readiness with men, material and machinery for the immediate closure of breaches and resolve dislocation of traffic during the cyclone/flood in their respective divisions.
V. Works Department
• All the field Executive Engineers have been sensitized for water-tightness of the EVM strong rooms and post-cyclone restoration works of all PWD roads and Govt. buildings.
• Material, manpower and machinery have been arranged for deployment at vulnerable locations.
VI. Department of Health and Family Welfare
• 604 pregnant women have been shifted to Maa Gruhas/Delivery points
• 302 RRTs/ mobile teams have been made ready
• 936 MRCs have been planned
• 242 power back up arrangements and 494 ambulances have been kept ready.
VII. Fisheries and ARD Department:
• Instruction has already been issued to field veterinarians to aware dairy farmers and small animal owners to take immediate measures by shifting their animals to safe places to avoid livestock loss.
• Besides steps for health care services, measures for carcass disposal have been ensured.
• All necessary medicines and quick response teams kept ready.
VIII. Industries Department
• Instructions have been issued to all the companies to extend all necessary cooperation with regard to the supply of earth movers, fire extinguishers and other necessary rescue equipment available with organisations to the district administration as well as to other response agencies.
• Instructions have also been made to safely store hazardous material within the industry/ factory campus to avoid spilling or leakage.
IX. Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department
• Agro based crop advisory prepared by OUAT and Directorate of Agriculture on crop management during and before the cyclonic storm has been issued to the district level officers for wide circulation among the field functionaries and farmers.
• The same crop advisory has been disseminated through All India Radio, 15 Community Radio Stations across the state and Doordarshan Kendras.
• PADIF and m-Kissan are also delivering voice response and SMSs since Wednesday to 26.88 lakh farmers
• A detailed crop management programme was telecast through “Palishree” Programme of DD Odia.
X. ST & SC Development Department
• Instructions have been issued for closing all educational institutions including Higher Secondary Schools, EMRS and Teacher Training Schools under the department w.e.f from today.
• Instructions have also been issued to ensure safety and security of the student boarders staying in residential schools, including urban hostels, post-matric hostels and hostels of higher secondary schools, EMRS and teacher training schools.
XI. Housing and Urban Development Department
• All logistics, chemicals required for the smooth management of Water Supply to ULBs have been arranged.
• 166 tankers are available and another 42 have been arranged.
• 101 DG sets are available and another 69 have been arranged along with POL.
• Control room for drinking water in all ULBs round-the-clock.
• WATSAN committee members have been sensitized for required assistance.
XII. Department of Tourism
• An advisory for tourists has already been issued by the department to evacuate them from the coastal destination of Odisha from Thursday till the situation normalizes.
• District and Department level control rooms have already been set up to assist the tourists.
