2019 is the first year when a long-range electric car (Hyundai Kona) was introduced in the Indian market. This, and the government ordering a few electric cars for various departments, has led to the beginning of electric vehicle sales in the country.
Between April and December 2019, 1,554 electric cars were sold in India.
The Tata Tigor EV was the highest sold electric car with 669 units, followed by Mahindra e-Verito, which clocked 563 units. The discontinued Mahindra E2O recorded just 30 units.
Hyundai sold 292 units of the more expensive Kona Electric.
Apart from that, MG, which launched the ZS electric this month has already received 2,100 bookings.
