Here’s How PM Modi Thanks Donald Trump For Diwali Call: ‘Let Our Democracies…”

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked US President Donald Trump for his Diwali greetings and a phone call extending festive wishes. In his message, Modi emphasised the enduring strength of India–U.S. ties and hoped that both democracies would continue to “illuminate the world with hope.”

The PM reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and fostering international cooperation. In a message on X, PM Modi stated: “Thank you, President Trump, for your phone call and warm Diwali greetings. On this festival of lights, may our two great democracies continue to illuminate the world with hope and stand united against terrorism in all its forms.

The exchange came as the United States marked Diwali with celebrations at the White House, where Trump lit a traditional brass lamp and extended greetings to India and the Indian-American community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Trump said, “I just spoke to your Prime Minister today. We had a great conversation. We talked about trade. We talked about a lot of things, but mostly the world of trade. He’s very interested in that.”

Observers noted that Modi’s reference to standing united against terrorism carried a diplomatic undertone, hinting at India’s continuing focus on global security and counter-terror cooperation.

The cordial exchange between the two leaders comes amid ongoing engagements over trade, energy, and strategic cooperation between New Delhi and Washington. Both leaders, known for their warm personal rapport, have previously exchanged greetings on major occasions, highlighting the symbolic significance of the India–US partnership.
