Here’s Why Priyanka Gandhi’s Quirky Bag Making Headlines Amid Opposition’s Protests Over Adani Issue In Parliament

New Delhi: Taking forward Congress’s ‘Modani’ jibe, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi carried a bag to the Parliament on Tuesday featuring a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani—who was recently indicted in the US over bribery charges—with the slogan “Modi Adani Bhai Bhai” boldly printed on it. “Its unfortunate that the house is not running, we can’t participate in debate and discussion,” Gandhi told reporters.

Amused by the bag, her brother and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, said, “This (the bag) is quite cute.” Initially, he checked the front design of the bag featuring the Modi-Adani image. Then, he flipped the bag to read the slogan printed on the other side. Upon seeing the slogan, Rahul said, “Look how cute this is!”

Amid the ongoing winter session, Congress had been accusing the BJP-led Central government of avoiding discussions on the bribery charges against Adani in the US. Since the session began on November 20, both Houses have been witnessing disruptions over the issue. And Congress has been bringing up props of various kind to turn spotlight on the issue.

Here’s What MP from Odisha did to mock Modi-Adani ‘bonhomie’

For instance, on Monday (December 9), Congress MPs Manickam Tagore and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka wore face masks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani. Rahul Gandhi, was seen clicking pictures of Tagore and Ulaka and also asked to describe their “relationship”. Mocking the alleged bonhomie between Adani and PM Modi, the MPs said, “Hum dono milke sab karenge (we will do everything together). We have had a relationship for years.”

Opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc, expect from Trinamool Congress, Samajawadi Party and the Aam Aadmi Party, had joined the protests on Monday in the Parliament over the issue. The Opposition has been seeking a joint parliamentary probe into the case.

Last month, US prosecutors alleged that Adani, his nephew Sagar and other officials from the group of paying over $250 million in bribes between 2020 and 2024 to Indian government officials to secure solar energy contracts. Adani Group has declined such allegations repeatedly.
