Jammu: In a major anti-narcotics action near the Line of Control, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday recovered five kilograms of high‑purity heroin in Kosalyain village of Haveli tehsil in Poonch district, officials said.
The haul, seized during a carefully executed operation in the forward village close to the LoC, was trafficked across the border and was destined for distribution further inside the country through an organised cross‑border smuggling network, the officials added.
Officials put the international market value of the confiscated consignment at more than ₹25 crore, calling it one of the biggest drug recoveries in Poonch in recent years, PTI reported.
Security agencies have long warned that smugglers based in Pakistan use border tracks to push narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir, often working with terror-linked groups to raise funds for anti‑national activities, they said.
One person suspected of involvement in the smuggling was detained in connection with the seizure, and inquiries are ongoing to trace the intended recipients of the shipment, the cross‑border operatives who handled it, and the local facilitators hired to move and distribute the drugs.
Officials indicated that further arrests and additional recoveries are likely as the investigation proceeds.
