Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has ordered a stay on departmental promotion of some personnel in the Odisha Police Battalion.
The High Court issued the stay order on Thursday after hearing a petition filed by Deputy Commandant Bibhuti Bhusan Maharana and five others.
The petitioners had moved the HC against discrimination in their promotion. They cited that the names of some officials junior to them have been recommended for promotion.
The departmental promotion committee (DPC) would have finalised the recommended names of the personnel for the promotion. However, the date of next DPC meeting has not been fixed.
Stating that their seniority was ignored and thus they were discriminated, the petitioners had sought the intervention of the High Court.
After hearing the case, the court ordered stay on the DPC meeting till next hearing of the case. The next hearing of has been fixed on February 20.
