Malkangiri: Disregard for the warning from the authorities against high-decibel music at different functions proved fatal as the father of a groom died reportedly due to deafening music being played during marriage procession in the district on Wednesday night.
According to sources, the groom, Ankit had made friendship with the girl of Lathiaguda on Facebook while working in Delhi. After some time, their families decided to get them married.
Accordingly, Ankit’s father Mahendra Rohila, family members and relatives came down to Malkangiri for the marriage function. On Wednesday night, while the baraati (marriage procession) was going to the bride’s house, Mahendra complained of illness due to high-decibel music played by the DJ and collapsed on the spot.
Mahendra was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead. As the bride’s family cancelled the marriage due to the tragic incident, Ankit sat on a dharna in front of the hotel his relatives were staying along with the body of his father demanding the marriage to be performed. He also reportedly created a ruckus in the girl’s house.
However, on being informed, police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control. They police took Mahendra’s body for post-mortem. Later, the body was handed over to the family after completion of the post-mortem. Further investigation into the matter is on.
