Bhubaneswar: The Biju International Airport witnessed a high drama on Thursday after a young couple sought police protection on arrival from Bengaluru.
They had sought police protection reportedly due to the opposition from the woman’s family against their marriage and were taken to the police station.
The family of the woman, who is a doctor, told the media that they were at the airport to meet her and were against this match.
Her father said that the man, identified as Gagandeep Singh Kaur, had earlier withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from her account and a complaint in this regard was lodged at Khadagiri police station about six years ago. “She was in Plus II then. They are classmates. We had withdrawn the complaint at the request of his parents,” he said.
Mother of Gagandeep, who works at a private firm, refused to comment on the issue.
