Bhubaneswar: High drama was witnessed at a wedding reception in Bhubaneswar when a young woman stormed the venue and claimed that the groom was her former lover who betrayed her after making marriage promise.
As per information, the incident took place at a marriage mandap in Dhauli police station area, where a large number of guests had gathered to celebrate the newly-wed couple’s union.
The celebratory atmosphere turned chaotic when the woman, escorted by local police, made a sudden entry and started creating ruckus. She confronted the groom accusing him of ending their long-standing relationship and secretly marrying another woman.
Claiming that she and the groom were in a serious relationship for several years, the woman said the man had promised to marry her. However, without any sharing any information, the man reportedly severed all ties with her and got married to someone else.
As the situation virtually turned into a battlefield, police personnel present at the site intervened and took the groom away from the reception stage. He was reportedly taken into custody for questioning by the police.
Police sources said formal complaints have been filed at Lingaraj Police Station as well as Mahila Police Station in the state capital against the man with allegations of emotional betrayal, breach of promise, and sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage.
As per preliminary investigation, the woman had reportedly tried to reach out to the man several times before the wedding, but received no response, prompting her to seek police intervention.
A thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the veracity of the woman’s claims. Police are verifying phone records, personal communication, and trying to obtain information from people close to the woman and the man.
