Lahore: A gang of dacoits attacked a Hindu temple with rocket launchers in southern part of Pakistan’s Sindh province on Sunday.
According to police, the assailants attacked the temple and adjoining houses belonging to Hindus in Kashmore area of the Sindh province.
A police unit, led by Kashmore-Kandhkot SSP Irfan Sammo, reached the spot after assailants fired indiscriminately at the temple which was built by local Hindu community.
They fired ‘rocket launchers’ at the place of worship, which was closed during the attack.
The temple opens annually for religious services conducted by the Bagri community, a police official said.
“The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday. They fired indiscriminately and fled when a police party reached the spot. We are conducting a search operation in the area,” Samoo said.
As per police estimate, eight or nine gunmen were involved in the attack.
Dr Suresh, a member of Bagri community, said that thankfully, the rocket launchers fired by the dacoits did not explode.
SSP Samoo assured the traumatised Hindu community members that they would be provided protection.
