Sambalpur: Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, the authorities of the Hirakud Dam have decided to release the first floodwaters of this monsoon season on July 11.
In a notification on Thursday, additional chief engineer, Hirakud Head Works and Additional Spillway, said that the release of the floodwater is scheduled at 11 am.
As the release of floodwater will increase the water level of Mahanadi and its tributaries, the administrations in the riverside districts have been requested to have the river bed and downstream of Hirakud dam cleared to ensure the safety of life and property.
