Sambalpur: The water level of Hirakud dam touched the optimum height of 630 feet on Friday, forcing the dam authorities to open three more gates to release excess water.
The dam authorities are most likely to open more gates following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi river, sources said.
By 9 am, the water level had remained at 630 feet. While the inflow of the water into the reservoir was 1,52,612 cusecs per second, the outflow from 10 gates was 1,52,612 cusecs per second.
During the period, the discharge of Mahanadi water at Khairmal barrage was 1.82 lakh cusecs per second while the discharge from Barmul barrage was 78,000 cusecs per second and 71,000 cusecs per second from Samal barrage.
