Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities on Monday opened one sluice gate to discharge excess water from the reservoir.
The gate was opened around 2:20 am following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi river.
At present, the water level in the reservoir stands at 629.81 ft. While the inflow of water into the reservoir was 70, 836 cusecs, outflow was 45, 426 cusecs.
“Depending on the quantity of rainfall in the upper catchment, more gates will opened in future,” chief engineer, Hirakud Dam, Haramohan Pradhan said.
