History-Sheeter Injured In Police Encounter In Ganjam

Berhampur: As part of the drive against anti-social elements, the Ganjam police nabbed another dreaded criminal following an encounter late on Monday.
The history-sheeter was identified as Jitu Swain alias Badal of Barapoli village in Gangapur area of Bhanjanagar block.
He has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur with bullet wounds.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Jitu in Sheragada Sheragada area, a joint team of Hinjili and Sheragada police blocked the road near Dengapadar Chhak on Hinjilikatu-Sheragada road at aroud 1 am.
On spotting the forces, Jitu opened fire in an attempt to fflee. The police retaliated and he fell off his motorcycle after a bullet hit his right leg.
A Mauser, a mobile phone and the bike were seized from his possession.
According to reports, police were in the hunt for Jitu who was involved in the murder of Budha Bisoi under Aska police limits, Santosh Biswal under Gangapur police limits and a man of Gothagan village under Sheragada police limits. Besides, more than 22 cases of dacoity and extortion are pending against him in Hinjili and Sheragada police stations and Kharavela Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar.
