Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested the driver of a Mercedes-Benz SUV and seized the vehicle in connection with a recent hit-and-run case in Odisha capital.
The accused, identified as Jagan Paika (32), has been booked under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
According to sources, Dillip Parida, who hailed from Binjharpur in Jajpur, had a tea stall near Panda Park at Saheed Nagar. On Friday, he was grievously injured after being hit by the SUV while cleaning the area in front of his tea stall. He was rushed to the Capital Hospital in a critical condition by the police but was declared dead.
Saheed Nagar police began a probe and arrested Paika on the basis of CCTV footage and interrogation of eyewitnesses.
The seized vehicle is registered in the name of a real estate firm, police told the media.
