Hockey World Cup: Police Commissioner Takes Stock Of Security In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: With first match of FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup-2023 set to be kicked off in Odisha capital on Friday, Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarsi took stock of security arrangements around the city on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, Priyadarsi said since sports enthusiasts will turn up to watch the matches of the international tournament and the players and officials of different teams are likely to visit tourist and historical places, he went to those places to ensure security arrangements. Two matches of the tournament will be played at Kalinga Stadium in the city on Friday.

On the security arrangements, he said 13 Additional DCPs, 33 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 62 Inspectors and 336 Sub-Inspectors would be deployed to ensure peaceful conduct of the tournament and safety of the teams.

One Additional DCP, 2 ACPs, 4 Inspectors and 103 personnel will be in charge of security at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) for the visiting players and dignitaries, while 3 Additional DCPs, 9 ACPs, 9 Inspectors and 18 platoons of police force will be deployed at the hotels where the accommodation of the teams has been made, he added.

Similarly, 6 Additional DCPs, 14 ACPs, 31 Inspectors and 23 platoons of police will be deployed at Kalinga Stadium and 3 ACPs, 6 Inspectors and 15 platoons will look after traffic movement in the city. Besides, ODRAF and Fire Brigade will be kept ready for exigencies, the Commissioner said.
