Sundergarh: The Crime branch of Odisha on Saturday arrested home guard Gurucharan Farikar in connection with the rape and illegal abortion of a 13-year-old minor girl in Sundargarh district’s Birmitrapur.
Farikar had been working as a driver at Birmitrapur police station.
The survivor was able to identify him during a Test of Identification (TI) parade of the accused at Rourkela Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court.
He was subsequently arrested and produced before the Sundargarh special POCSO court. He has been remanded to jail custody after his bail petition was turned down by the court.
Earlier, former Birmitrapur police station IIC Anand Chandra Majhi and Debasish Ghose, the doctor who performed the illegal abortion, were arrested in the case.
Six people, including the IIC, the doctor and the victim’s stepfather were named in the FIR.
The 13-year-old had claimed that she was gang-raped and impregnated, prompting the CWC to conduct an inquiry. A case was registered on June 22 at Raiboga police station.
